This Komodo Dragon portrait was drawn from a young male specimen at 'Crocodiles of the World' (Near Oxford) called Batu.

Komodo dragons are incredibly vulnerable, and like all island species face an ever increasing threat of extinction due to their isolation and fragility against environmental issues. Unlike the reputation so often portrayed in the media, as the world largest species of lizard, they have recently been found in studies to be far more intelligent than previously thought, and even show signs of play.

Komodo dragons, the largest living species of lizard, are fascinating reptiles found on the Indonesian islands of Komodo, Rinca, Flores, and Gili Motang. While these incredible creatures have been captivating people for centuries, they are currently facing several threats that are putting their survival at risk.
